Client Support Specialist

I am a client support specialist in the data centre’s Desktop Service team. General tasks in this field include the installation and setup of computers, notebooks and iOS devices. We also provide second-level support via remote maintenance or directly on site. Other important issues are those matters relating to the Alcatel telephone system and the mobile device management. The range of tasks in our area is broad, to say the least.

Every day is remarkable and always holds a surprise in store. I ask myself each morning what the day might bring. For example, will a computer start, or not? It is the unpredictable nature of the work that makes it so exciting. I also enjoy taking on assignments for the executive staff and/or the Gauselmann family. These are jobs that entail discretion and also pose a certain challenge. The demands I have of myself are much higher than usual when “just” carrying out routine tasks.

For me, the working atmosphere at BEIT is exceptionally good. A healthy mix of humour and irony prevails in our building. The different teams at BEIT work hand in hand, because the areas and responsibilities overlap. And we colleagues meet up outside of work, too, also with colleagues from other teams. In addition, we have access to high-quality working tools, like the iPad Pro, for example.

Apart from the working atmosphere, my wonderful team and the exciting and varied tasks that I get to work on every day, BEIT has provided me with the opportunity to progress on a professional and personal scale. I’ve got to know other fields, have learnt a lot there, have been able to progress. And ultimately I’ve found the job that is best suited to me and that pools my interests in an optimal way.

Team Lead Procurement

After I had originally applied to BEIT for a position at the service centre, I soon realised during the interview that my strengths and qualifications might be much better matched to a vacancy in the field of procurement/IT purchasing that had recently become available. A good four years later, I am already a team leader and responsible for a team of ten. One of my main tasks in procurement is essentially to equip the workstations for new employees in the corporate group with appropriate hard- and software. But I also really enjoy special larger projects in which the procurement department is often involved.

The “casino ships” project was the greatest challenge for me so far, which involved providing the IT equipment for entirely new casinos that were to be set up on cruise ships. It was a completely novel situation for me as a case worker, for BEIT itself and for the entire corporate group. My task was to procure the appropriate hardware for it – at a reasonable price, of course. This meant identifying new suppliers as I saw fit and then negotiating suitable prices and conditions.

What is special about my work is the entire corporate group’s international character, which is also reflected in my work for BEIT. The contact to our customers abroad is very important to me, as it allows me to practice my English. I learn a lot and improve my language skills in the process.

And I enjoy the working atmosphere at BEIT very much for other reasons as well. There’s a relaxed atmosphere amongst the colleagues. People like each other and meet up outside office hours, too. My direct line manager always takes the time to listen and is very fair in his decision-making. BEIT also offers the option of periodically working from home. As I have quite a long commute to work, that’s a very good thing for me. And with the company MERKUR GROUP as an employer active on a global scale, the opportunity to get involved in new and exciting projects is always present.

Customer Support Specialist

Since the end of my training as an IT specialist more than 15 years ago, I have been working as a member of staff at BEIT GmbH’s service centre. The main task in this field is to provide support in all matters relating to the information technologies that BEIT offers. We are the first point of contact for our customers in case of problems with hard- and software, for example, and we offer advice and issue authorisations.

At our service centre, there is no particular division of labour for the tasks that need tending. Each employee deals with the issue at hand arising at that given moment. Our customers contact us via telephone or email.

What I find especially appealing about my job is the support itself, i.e. the work with our customers. Each and every telephone call or email address is different and poses a fresh challenge. I never know what to expect next and that is what makes my job interesting and versatile. In addition, the coordination within the team is very good. We provide additional on-call services to be available for our customers outside office hours. The services of each and every team member are planned individually for each week, and the weekend service is planned about two months in advance. The needs of the staff members are taken into account on a flexible basis, e.g. when someone has appointments elsewhere.

For me, working at BEIT GmbH is special, as I am able to reconcile professional and family life here. I love doing what I do and every day is different; things never get dull. Also, BEIT GmbH offers the option of working in a flexible working time model, allowing you to work from home as well. This way I am able to continue to do my job, but am also there for my children when they come home from kindergarten and school.

Our company, BEIT GmbH, is a full-service provider of IT solutions. Established in 1987, our headquarters are based in Espelkamp in East Westphalia. We started business as a technical department within the MERKUR GROUP but have since evolved into an independent company with more than 130 employees, an international presence and annual sales of approximately EUR 22 million.

As an internal service provider, we are very familiar with the MERKUR GROUP’s markets and business activities. Our expertise lies in selecting innovative information technologies, integrating them into customised IT solutions and making them available, all within a narrow time frame. Our mission is to contribute continously to the success of the MERKUR GROUP. This objective also governs our organisational structure. For us, relationship management means acting as a link to our affiliated companies. Our three lines of business – IT solutions, IT services and IT training – reflect the respective services that we provide. To do this, we utilise the resources of our own Competence Center (CC) or the services of external service providers.

IT solutions

IT systems have a decisive influence on the performance of a company and therefore represent a key factor in a company’s success. As an internal service provider, we develop solutions for the entire MERKUR GROUP to optimise existing business processes and support new ones. Within the MERKUR GROUP, BEIT is also responsible for establishing additional business segments and expanding the portfolio to include IT-based products.

Process management and the implementation of new IT systems are closely linked. We support the MERKUR GROUP companies with process modelling and optimisation and in doing so introduce our experiences from a variety of projects.

Our IT solution management team has access to the staff resources and tools of the BEIT Competence Center (data center and applications) and to external service providers to implement the relevant projects. The BEIT Competence Center consists of various specialist teams for the respective IT areas. If necessary, we also supplement our expertise with that of external specialists through our partner management strategy.

We use systems and development tools created by market leaders – primarily in the SAP, Microsoft and Oracle product families – to implement new IT solutions. These tools are supplemented by Java development tools and other high-performance open source products. We meet specific industry requirements by deploying complementary solutions developed by leading specialist suppliers or by developing our own solutions.

Project management

Depending on the project environment, we use agile methods, best practices or the traditional waterfall model and deliver successful projects in a way that is transparent, cost-effective and audit-compliant. Starting with the objective, we structure the project and manage risk, configuration and quality by using every aspect of modern and efficient IT project management.

In addition, all project managers have the extensive expertise and skills needed to successfully organise, plan and manage projects. They are also certified according to GPM (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Projektmanagement e. V.) standard.

Process management

Process management is a crucial factor in corporate success. As an internal service company, we ensure the continuous improvement of IT processes within the MERKUR GROUP. Process management is closely interwoven with the implementation of new IT systems. Based on the experience gained from a multitude of projects, we support the MERKUR GROUP’s companies with process modelling and optimisation.

IT services

As an expert and reliable IT partner, we provide the MERKUR GROUP with first-level support for all the IT services that it needs to conduct its business activities. We currently support more than 61,800 connections, such as servers, workstations, gaming devices, as well as the PCs and laptops of more than 4,500 users at approximately 590 locations worldwide. Our service offering covers the areas of IT equipment, application service provision and the BEIT Service Center.

We deploy all standard systems, from desktop computers and printers to a wide variety of mobile devices. In doing so, we always place a high priority on the quality of our services and on the exceptionally high security level of our systems.

Our Certification

Quality management – ISO 9001:

All our business processes are subject to continuous quality control and optimisation in accordance with the international quality management standard ISO 9001, which officially proves BEIT’s expertise and ability.

Security – ISO 27001:

All BEIT offerings meet the highest security standards thanks to our ISO 27001 certification. We ensure the availability of our systems and the consistency and confidentiality of the processed information by means of extensive measures.

Data protection – ISO 27018:

Due to ISO 27018 certification, we guarantee compliance with data protection requirements regarding transparency, information and notification requirements for cloud services. The aim of the international standard for “data protection in the cloud” is to guarantee the maximum and contractually secured protection for the managed personal data of customers and at the same time to minimise the risk of breaches of contract.

Application service provider

In our role as an application service provider (ASP), we provide the MERKUR GROUP with all the applications that they request and the tool that is needed to use them successfully. Based on our global network, we can provide support anywhere in the world, and all IT services can be used regardless of location.

We operate the necessary system infrastructure in our central data center and ensure the security and availability of the systems. Our comprehensive quality and security management ensures that we meet data protection requirements.

Our high security data center is a state-of-the-art facility. The most important features of the physical infrastructure of our data center include

IT equipment

As a full IT service provider, we ensure that the MERKUR GROUP’s employees have the appropriate IT equipment for their company office, home office and while they are travelling. Our range of products extends from desktops and laptops to printers and mobile devices to meet all their IT equipment needs.

We provide the devices of leading providers, fully equipped and ready for operation, on a rental basis. We configure each item of equipment individually, and ensure that the necessary components are included to protect personal data. If the equipment shows a technical fault or is lost, we arrange for it to be quickly replaced.

BEIT Service Center

Within the MERKUR GROUP, the BEIT Service Center acts as the expert contact for all IT issues. The team has extensive problem-solving expertise and uses advanced help desk technologies to analyse problems and advise users. Specific issues can be rapidly dealt with by speaking directly to our developers and experts.

As a central point of contact for user support, we not only provide advice and troubleshooting expertise but also offer technical support using remote diagnosis and remote maintenance.

IT training

Regular skills training and continuing professional development is the best investment in employee satisfaction and the most effective way of futureproofing a company. We therefore put special emphasis on the targeted training of users in efficiently and effectively using the provided IT solutions. We have been delivering practical IT seminars at the BEIT academy since 1998. The training courses, which take place in Schloss Benkhausen, the MERKUR GROUP's seminar and training center, are delivered by experienced lecturers who have practical experience.

In addition to hosting seminars that are tailored to projects currently being implemented by the MERKUR GROUP, the BEIT Academy also invites external companies and private individuals to participate in practical IT seminars. Customers can avail of the diverse range of seminars on offer and also book seminars that are individually tailored to specific software applications. The focus of the content is consistently customer-related and task-oriented. We always take into consideration the level of knowledge of participants and place particular emphasis on ensuring that our seminars include a high proportion of practical exercises.

This Privacy Policy informs you about the nature, the scope and the purpose of processing of personal data (hereafter “data” for short) within our online presence and related websites, functions and content as well as external elements of our online presence, such as our social media profile (hereafter collectively referred to as “online presence”). Types of processed data:

Terms used

“Personal data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (hereafter “data subject”); an identifiable person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier (e.g. cookie) or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.

“Processing” means any operation or set of operations which is performed on personal data, whether or not by automated means. The term is broad and encompasses practically all handling of data.

“Controller” means the natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body which, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data.

Security measures

Pursuant to Art. 32 of the GDPR, taking into account the state of the art, the costs of implementation and the nature, scope, context and purposes or processing as well as the risk of varying likelihood and severity for the rights and freedoms of natural persons, we implement appropriate technical and organisation measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk.

Such measures include, in particular, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data by controlling physical access to the data as well as access relating to the data, input, dissemination, ensuring availability and their segregation. Furthermore, we have put in place processes to ensure the exercise of data subjects’ rights, erasure of data and response to a data compromise. Moreover, we take personal data protection into account as early as the development/selection stage of hardware, software as well as processes, in accordance with the principle of data protection by design and by default (Art. 25 of the GDPR).

Rights of the data subjects

You have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether we process your personal data, the right to access to such data and the right to further information as well as a copy of the data in accordance with Art. 15 of the GDPR.

According to Art. 16 of the GDPR, you have the right to have any incomplete data concerning you completed and/or the rectification of inaccurate data concerning you.

According to Art. 17 of the GDPR, you have the right to obtain the erasure of data concerning you without delay or, alternatively, according to Art. 18 of the GDPR, the restriction of processing of data.

You have the right to receive the data concerning you, which you have provided to us, in accordance with Art. 20 of the GDPR and to transmit those data to another controller.

Furthermore, you have the right, according to Art. 77 of the GDPR, to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.

Right to object (opt out)

You may object at any time to the future processing of data concerning you in accordance with Art. 21 of the GDPR.

Cookies and right to opt out of direct marketing

“Cookies” are small files that are placed on a user’s computer. The cookie may contain various details. The primary purpose of a cookie is to save a user’s details (or the details of the device on which the cookie is placed) while or after visiting an online presence. Temporary cookies, that is, “session cookies” or “transient cookies” are cookies that are erased when the user leaves the online presence and closes the browser. Such cookies may contain the contents of a basket in an online shop or the user’s login details for example. “Permanent” or “persistent” cookies are cookies that remain stored even after the browser is closed. For example, the user’s login details can be retrieved when the user returns after a number of days. Such cookies may also contain the user’s interests, which are used for audience reach measurement or marketing purposes. A “third-party cookie” is a cookie set by a party other than the Controller who operates the online presence (otherwise they are called “first-party cookies”).

We may use temporary and permanent cookies and inform you about this in our Privacy Policy.

If users do not want cookies to be placed on their computer, they are prompted to change their browser settings accordingly. Stored cookies may be cleared in the browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit the functionality of this online presence.

You can opt out of the use of cookies for the purposes of online behavioural marketing by a number of businesses in general, especially in the case of tracking, on the US site http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the EU site http://www.youronlinechoices.com/. Furthermore, you can disable cookies in your browser settings. Please note that if you do so you may not be able to use all the functions of this online presence.

Erasure of data

The data we process are erased, or their processing is restricted, pursuant to Art. 17 and 18 of the GDPR. Unless expressly stated in this Privacy Policy, the data stored by us are erased as soon as they are no longer required for their intended purpose and erasure does not conflict with statutory storage obligations. If the data are not erased because they are required for other, lawful purposes, their processing is restricted. That is, the data are blocked and not processed for other purposes. This applies, for example, to data that must be stored under commercial or tax law.

Making contact

When making contact with us (e.g. via the contact form, email, by phone or on social media) the user’s data are processed to deal with and process the contact request in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (b) of the GDPR.

Collection of access data and log files

We/our hosting provider collect data on every instance of access to the server on which this service is stored (server log files) on the basis of our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR. Access data include the name of the accessed website, file, the date and time of access, volume of data transferred, successful access message, browser type and version, user’s operating system, referrer URL (last page visited), IP address and the requesting provider.

Log file information is stored for security reasons (e.g. to investigate misuse or fraud) for up to 7 days and then erased. Data whose continued retention is required for evidential purposes are excluded from erasure until final resolution of the incident in question.

Audience reach measurement with Matomo/Piwik

In the context of audience reach analysis from Matomo/Piwik, the following data are processed on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and commercial operation of our online presence within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR): the browser type you use and the browser version, the operating system you are running, your country of origin, date and time of the server request, the number of visits, length of stay on the website as well as the external links you clicked. The user IP address is anonymised before it is stored.

Matomo uses cookies that are stored on the user’s computer and enable analysis of the use of our online presence by users. In the process, pseudonymous usage profiles on the users may be generated from the processed data. The cookies are stored for one week. The information about your use of this website that is generated by the cookie is only stored on our server and is not passed on to third parties.

Users can opt out of anonymised data collection by the Matomo programme at any time with future effect by clicking on the link below. In that event, an opt-out cookie will be placed in your browser. As a result, Matomo will no longer collect any session data. However, when users clear their cookies the opt-out cookie also gets deleted and therefore has to be set by users once again.

The logs containing the user data are erased after no more than 6 months.

Embedding third-party services and content

We use third-party content or services on our online presence on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and commercial operation of our online presence within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR) in order to embed their content and services, such as videos or fonts (hereafter collectively referred to as “content”).

This is contingent upon the third-party providers of such content finding the user’s IP address, as without the IP address they would not be able to send the content to their browser. The IP address is therefore required to display such content. We endeavour only to use content the providers of which only use the IP address to deliver the content. Third-party providers may also use pixel tags (clear GIFs, also known as “web beacons”) for statistical or marketing purposes. Pixel tags enable information, such as visitor traffic on the pages of this website, to be evaluated. The pseudonymous information may also be stored in cookies on the user’s device and contain technical information on the browser and operating system, referrer URLs, time of visit as well as further details on the use of our online presence, amongst other things, and may also be collated with such information from other sources.
